Hier : Bjorn WALDEGARD / Lars HELMERS - Rallye Monte-Carlo 1970

During this 1970 edition of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, the numbers of the participants were strangely assigned based solely on the performance of the previous year. This is why the official Ford Escort TC of Hannu Mikkola receives the n°4 whereas, for having retired the previous year, on BMW 2002 factory, his team-mate Timo Mäkinen, former winner, inherits the n°130. For Ford assistance, it's a nightmare because the two cars start two hours apart. The 1970 edition was the first followed live by Radio Monte-Carlo.

Its course is similar to that of the previous year. Porsche presents three 911 2.2 liters for Björn Waldegärd, Ake Andersson and Gérard Larousse. This time, Alpine aligns its light (700 kg) A110 with 1.3 l engine, but also 1.6 l. Quickly, the two Alpines equipped with the "big engine" disappeared: Jean Vinatier had an accident, while Jean-Luc Thérier broke his gearbox.

Returning 100 hp to the Porsches, the Alpine 1.3 l can hardly compete. Giving his all, Jean-Pierre Nicolas nevertheless points to a brilliant second place - ahead of Larousse - at the end of the Parcours Commun. The last night, after three spins during the first pass at the Turini, Larousse set five fastest times to snatch second place from Nicolas. Meanwhile, indifferent to this struggle, Waldegard secures his second consecutive victory.

A great Porsche lover, “doc” Christian MAIRE presents a replica of this victorious car.
