Yesterday : Bruno SABY / Jean-François FAUCHILLE – Tour de Corse 1984
When in 1980 Saby finally got his hands on a private Renault 5 Turbo, he finished fifteenth on the Monte Carlo and fourth in Corsica. In the four years that followed, he drove R5 Turbos for Renault, winning the French championship in 1981. For 1984, he concentrated on selected rounds of the WRC that included the 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland. Saby surprised everyone by finishing eighth overall on this difficult gravel event. Indeed, it was probably this result more than any other that convinced Jean Todt to sign him for Peugeot for 1985.
This Renault 5 Turbo is owned by Frank Hachmann since 1992 and was completely rebuilt between 2003 and 2005. The engine has 1397cc and with an engine kit from Renault Sport and a Devil exhaust delivers 200bhp.
