Yesterday : Jean-Louis CLARR / Jean-François FAUCHILLE - Rallye de Lorraine 1979

In 1979, Jean-Louis CLARR took part in the French Rally Championship at the wheel of the Opel Kadett group 1. Mid-season, well placed in the Championship, his team had the idea of entering him at the wheel of a group 2 in order to gain points in the general ranking. The operation was made possible thanks to the Corsican pilot Claude ALBERTI who lent his Kadett group 2 for two events, in exchange for its free maintenance by Simon Racing which hired CLARR. Unfortunately, the result did not live up to expectations. If in the rally of Lorraine the Ile-de-France driver finished third in the general classification and second in the group (behind the Renault 5 Alpine of RAGNOTTI) it was quite different in the Ronde Cévenole. After smashing the group 2 record during practice, CLARR and Jean-François FAUCHILLE were forced to retire on the first lap of the race when the injection pump belt broke.

Conrero, the preparer of this group 2 produced high-performance engines fuelled by injection unlike other preparers who equipped them with two double Weber carburettors. Unfortunately, sometimes to the detriment of reliability.

Erik PROVOST's Kadett has retained its carburettors. However, it does not develop less than 192 HP. He made the replica of this car with the advice of his friendly driver at the time.
