Yesterday : Michèle MOUTON / Françoise CONCONI - Rallye d’Antibes 1978
With its square look that seemed designed by a 4-year-old child, nothing predestined the Fiat 131 to become a racing beast. Entrusted to Abarth with the aim of taking over from the 124, it comes out of the wizard's workshops transformed: aluminum roof and doors, plexiglass window, removal of the bumpers, addition of two fins, widening of the tracks and above all the graft a 2 liter engine developing more than 200 HP. 400 copies will be produced for group 4 homologation. From its first appearance in the race, at the 1976 Rally of the Island of Elba, the 131 Abarth won with Marku ALEN. He repeats the 1000 Lakes. 17 other victories will follow until 1981, when it bows out to make way for the 037.
We also saw the 131 Abarth in the National Championships, notably in France, in the hands of Jean-Claude ANDRUER and Michel MOUTON who finished second in the 1979 French Championship.
This performance inspired Yohan VALUSEK who presents a replica of the Cannes driver's car.
