Yesterday : Walter RÖHRL - Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 1987

19.984 kilometres and 156 bends leading up to a peak that lies at 4,301 metres above sea level. Welcome to the Pikes Peak “Race to the Clouds”, probably the most famous hill-climb in the world. Back in 1987, the event in the Rocky Mountains attracted no less than three European car manufacturers with Audi, Peugeot and VW all trying their luck. In the end, it was the brutish 600 bhp Sport Quattro E2 that performed best at Pikes Peak. Walter Röhrl literally stormed up to the peak and by setting a time of 10:47.850 minutes he was the first one to break the eleven-minute mark. His closest pursuer, Ari Vatanen in a special Peugeot 205 T16, was seven seconds slower.

Hans-Jürgen ERDBRÜGGER first drove a Lancia Delta in rallies. But the car was capricious, a real Italian diva. He then set his sights on an Audi Quattro S1 E2. Going to look for it, he comes face to face with the Pikes Peak version. A project in progress for a long time at the preparer, without engine and without transmission. He decides to buy it and entrusts Bettels Performance, the specialist in this kind of project, with the task of finishing it in order to bring this monster back to life.

The Alsace Rallye Festival will be the first appearance in France of an Audi Quattro Pikes Peak.
