Yann EHRLACHER meets his audience
Many fans were disappointed not to have been able to see Yann EHRLACHER in action during the French round of the WTCR. They will be able to console themselves by meeting the double world champion during the signing session which will take place on Friday evening at Place de la Liberté in Molsheim.
A professional footballer father, a mother, an uncle and a racing driver grandfather, Yann EHRLACHER could not escape his destiny: he would be a sportsman, preferably a driver.
Breaking with the family tradition, he will not scrap in karting but will start directly in motorsport. It will first be the German Volkswagen Scirocco-R Cup series in 2013, a series contested as a curtain raiser to the DTM races. Then the following year it was within his uncle's Yvan Muller Racing structure that the French public discovered him at the forefront of the Mitjet Two Liter Championship. Six victories and as many pole positions allow him to win the title. He did it again the following year, this time in the French Supertourism Championship, still within the YMR, scoring 12 additional victories on his record.
In 2016 and 2017, he headed for the European Le Mans Series. 2017 will also be the year of his remarkable debut in the WTCC, driving a private Lada Vesta with which he won the Argentinian round. In 2018 the WTCC becomes WTCR, and Yann will never leave the discipline. Two victories in 2018 on a Honda Civic Type R reward a first full season. In 2019 he joined Cyan Racing Link & Co, a newcomer to the discipline. His car is still stamped with the number 68, a nod to his region to which he is attached. If that year the counter of victories remains blocked, the year 2020 allows him to increase it by 3 units and especially to win the World Championship. On his way, he won a second title the following year.
2022 will unfortunately be thwarted by tire problems which led his team to suspend its commitment to the Championship, depriving the Alsatian public of seeing him on the track on the Rhine ring. But his fans will be able to find him on Friday evening at the signing session which will take place at Place de la Liberté.
