Yesterday : Kenneth ERIKSSON / Peter DIKMANN - Rallye de Nouvelle Zélande 1986

In 1986 rallying was still dominated by the Group B, but still the FIA announced a second World Drivers title for drivers competing in Group A cars. Volkswagen went for it and sent Kenneth Eriksson on the hunt for the title. On the Monte Carlo Rally, Kenneth not only won his class, he was also a remarkable ninth overall. By the end of the season, he won the “small” Drivers title beating Audi privateer Rudi Stohl to second place.

Since his youth, Mark Blüther was a victim of the Golf GTi fever and several of these cars went through his hands. Some of them even wanted to stay with him for longer. At the end of 2013, he decided to build a perfect copy of the 1986 World Championship winning Golf to use it in all kinds of rallies. He took a Golf GTi that had been parked away for seven years as a base and completely dismantled it. Then he reinforced the body shell, removed the sunroof and installed a proper roll cage. The engine and gearbox where also rebuilt and tuned to a similar power of the works cars. Thus, all in all not much was left from the original car when the job was completed.
