Aerst yesterday

1981 was a pivotal season in rallies. Old generation cars, powered by atmospheric engines, are now facing new technologies, turbocharger or four-wheel drive. Talbot is counting on the Sunbeam in which Des O'Dell has shoehorned in the 4-cylinder 16-valve developed at Lotus, to run for the world title.

The season is particularly contested. 6 brands and 9 drivers shared the victories during the 12 rounds. If Fréquelin fails by 7 small points against Vatanen, Talbot consoles himself with the manufacturer's title.

Cédric Grosjean usually drives a Norma single-seater on circuits and hill climbs. A collaborator in his company, Aude Valdenaire, is an experienced co-driver who was keen to introduce her boss to the rally. And what better event than the Alsace Rallye Festival for the debut on road events?

They align themselves with this replica of the car used by Henri Toivonen, the little Prince of rallies. The points he brought back to the team in 1981 greatly contributed to the success of the short-lived French brand.
