Yesterday : Jean RAGNOTTI / Jean-Marc ANDRIE - Rallye de Côte d'Ivoire 1978

In 1978, Renault entered two R5 Alpine Group 2 in the Côte d'Ivoire Rally, the famous Bandama. They are entrusted to the two in-house pilots, Jean RAGNOTTI and Guy FREQUELIN. Facing them, 54 other competitors, including an armada of 5 Peugeots, 3 504 V6 coupés and 2 104 SL sedans.
5,500 kilometers are to be covered, including 4,000 on tracks soaked by torrential downpours and scorching heat which at times raises the thermometer to 46°.
King of Africa, Peugeot wins. Jean-Pierre NICOLAS finished first ahead of MAKINEN. RAGNOTTI climbs on the third step of the podium, but more than an hour and a half behind the winner.
